Richard Wernette is the best qualified candidate
for Superior Court Judge
Judge Wernette has proven as a Municipal Court Judge and Superior Court Commissioner that in his court, all people – regardless of influence or wealth - have a right to be treated justly and with respect.
He has proven to be firm, but fair.
Crime Victim Rights \ Public Safety
Judge Wernette was the first judge in Walla Walla County to implement no bail confinement in all domestic violence arrests until the defendant appears before the court where a No Contact Order can be entered and bail and other restrictions considered.
In Judge Wernette’s court, there is no “revolving jailhouse door” where a defendant is arrested for domestic violence, posts minimal bail without seeing a Judge and immediately assaults the victim again.
Crime victims are too often forgotten. Victims are given a voice by law and the public is best protected by enforcing the law.
Judicial Experience
Judge Wernette has served as a Municipal Court Judge for five years and was appointed by our current Superior Court Judges in 2005 to serve as a Court Commissioner.
He has been an active Judge Pro Tem since 1991 at the request of all three District Court Judges then serving. He is also a respected and successful practicing attorney of 22 years.
His practice concentrates on family and criminal law, the same cases that take up approximately 80% of a Superior Court Judge’s time.
No other candidate can match Mr. Wernette’s readiness to serve as Superior Court Judge.
